Notes from Mark & Julie
This Steck pianola is free to a good home. The previous owner made the following comment and is desperate for it not to be scrapped:
Hi there, I’m considering purchasing a piano from you, and have here at home a Steck pianola which we believe may date to 1870-1890. In order to get a usable sound from the piano our tuner/technician has removed the main pianola mechanism which is sitting somewhat forlornly next to the pianola. Over the years it has had various repairs (the pianola worked in the 80s when I was a child) and tunes OK, but it no longer has its ivory keys and has some issues with a few notes, function of the pedals etc. External body work is mediocre, not really physically damaged particularly but paintwork/varnish is in poor condition. I wondered if, like most technicians that have seen it, you would consider it a worthless write off? I ask because although I realize it may have little monetary value, it has been in the family for around 100 years and I don’t think I could bear to see it destroyed.
