Yamaha YUS1SH upright piano review and information

The SH added to the YUS1 indicates that it has a ‘silent’ option fitted. Like the Original Yamaha YUS1, this piano is an upgrade to the professional grade Yamaha U1. If you have any technical info or corrections for this article, please email mgpianos@gmail.com.

The pros of buying a Yamaha YUS1SH

  • The Yamaha YUS1SH has all the amazing qualities of the Yamaha YUS1, with an added silent option fitted.
  • It is shorter than full-sized piano models, but can still produce a great sound. It is a great option for those who need a piano that will fit into their living spaces or have a smaller studio or classroom.

What are the cons of buying a YUS1SH?

  • The silent system in this model is getting a little old now and has been replaced by the SH2 (see below).

When was it produced?

The YUS1SH began production in the mid 1990s before becoming the YUS1SH2 around 2018.

Where was it made?

Japanese pianos are famous for being the very best and the Yamaha YUS1SH is no exception to this rule. Yamaha makes all of its top range pianos here, including its concert grand, the CFX, which sells for £140k.

Quotes

Don’t just take my word for it, here is a quote from a forum on Piano World -

“I actually would prefer (in case I choose the silent AP option) the YUS1” – http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2031038/re-quest-for-digital-piano-or-silent-acoustic-piano.html

Who should buy them?

If you want the best of the best, the YUS1SH is a great option and will keep up with even the most demanding of professional pianists.

Will I need to upgrade at some point?

You may find yourself wanting a more modern silent system or something a little bigger such as the YUS3SH2, but this piano will provide top class service for several generations.

Dimensions

Height:  121cm
Width:    152cm
Depth:    61cm

New and used prices.

The Yamaha YUS1SH will cost around £12,500 new. A reconditioned one might cost around £9500 but they are very rare so you are unlikely to find one.

Alternative models to consider similar to this.

If you can live without a silent system you could go for a YUS1 (it’s the same underlying piano without the silent kit) or you could consider the YUS3SH (very very rare) which has longer strings for a richer sound. You might also enjoy the U10BL which is an upgraded U1 and is likely to be far cheaper than the YUS1SH.

Conclusion

Its a truly great piano and if you find one in a great condition it will definitely make you a very happy pianist.
