The Pros of buying a YUS5SH2
- It is built on the amazing YUS5
- It has a modern Silent Option built in (upgraded since the YUS5SH)
- It has lovely long strings which means a deeper and more resonant tone.
- It is at the very top of the YUS series.
The cons of buying a YUS5SH2
- Very very rare
When was it produced?
The Yamaha YUS5SH2 was made from 2018 onwards
Where was it made?
Like all of Yamaha’s best pianos, the YUS5SH2 was made in their Hamamatsu factory, in Japan. Their very best concert grand pianos are made here too, such as the Yamaha CFX, which retails at £140,000.
Quotes from blogs, forums etc.
Here’s a quote we have found on a Piano World forum:
“I prefer the YUS5 over the GC1, CX2 and definately all the uprights.
I immediately feel the difference when I played one after another.” – http://forum.pianoworld.com//ubbthreads.php/topics/2113487.html
Who should buy them?
The YUS5SH2 will suit anyone who wants the best piano with the best silent option, be that professional pianists or ambitious students and everyone else in between.
Will I need to upgrade at some point?
No. The YUS5SH2 is good enough for even a concert pianist and has been built to last. The only way up from this piano is to get a high-end medium to large grand.
New and used prices.
The Yamaha YUS5SH is not easy to find. The new price is around £15,000 and you should expect to pay £10,000+ for a secondhand one (but you probably won’t find one for sale anywhere).
Alternative models to consider similar to this.
You might want to consider the U-series instead, such as the U3, U300, U30A, U30BL or U3X. If that doesn’t bring the price down enough, try the Yamaha U1 which is smaller, but still a great piano. Any of these models can have a Silent system included.
The Yamaha YUS5SH is an outstanding upright suitable for the very best pianists and the silent option can definitely be a useful feature. However, they are hard to find secondhand and are usually quite expensive so don’t pin your hopes on ever finding one.
