Selected Japanese Yamaha U1 pianos are currently available from £2990 including lifetime warranty, UK delivery, first tuning, adjustable stool and 14-day free returns.

Choose Your Yamaha U1

The Yamaha U1 is probably the best all-round upright piano ever made.

It is compact enough for most homes, but still has the clear tone, reliable action and long-term durability that made Japanese Yamaha uprights famous around the world.

Our current Yamaha U1 stock is shown below. The £2990 offer applies only to selected early 1970s Japanese U1 pianos while available.

Yamaha U1

Made in Japan. A hugely respected piano of the last 60+ years. We currently have 1 in stock.

Why Are So Many People Buying Japanese Yamaha U1 Pianos?

Because a properly prepared Japanese Yamaha U1 is often a much better piano than many newer entry-level uprights costing far more.

The Yamaha U1 has been trusted by teachers, schools, studios and families for decades because it offers:

  • Excellent reliability
  • Strong resale value
  • Consistent touch and tone
  • Long lifespan
  • Compact cabinet size
  • Proper acoustic piano performance

The globally respected Yamaha U series has now been in production for over 60 years and remains one of the safest upright piano purchases you can make.

Why This £2990 Yamaha U1 Offer Works So Well

A good Yamaha U1 is a serious lifetime piano.

It is suitable for beginners, children, adult learners, returning players and families who want one proper acoustic piano rather than replacing a cheaper instrument later.

At £2990, selected older U1s give you the main benefit of the famous Japanese Yamaha U1 design at a price that is often close to much weaker second-hand alternatives.

Included with every qualifying Yamaha U1:

  • Free UK ground floor delivery
  • Free first tuning
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Matching adjustable stool
  • 14-day free returns
  • Professionally prepared in our own workshop
  • Manchester and London viewing available

Why Are You Here?

Not sure which Yamaha piano to choose?

That is normal. Most customers start by asking the same questions:

  • Should I buy a Yamaha U1 or Yamaha U3?
  • Is an older Japanese Yamaha better than a newer budget piano?
  • Will a U1 be powerful enough?
  • Will a U3 be too large or loud?
  • Can I see videos before travelling?
  • What should I spend?

Why We Recommend The Yamaha U1 First

The Yamaha U1 is usually the first piano we recommend because it gives a proper acoustic piano experience without dominating the room physically or financially.

It is especially suitable for:

  • Serious beginners
  • Children starting lessons
  • Adult learners
  • Returning players
  • Piano teachers
  • Recording studios
  • Families wanting one piano to last for years

The U1 is compact enough for most homes while still feeling like a serious professional-quality instrument.

Looking For A Newer Or Premium U1?

The £2990 pianos are selected entry-point U1s.

If you want something younger, cleaner, more refined or more premium, look at our premium U1 models below.

These may include U10A, U10BL, UX1 or other high-grade Japanese Yamaha uprights when available.

Yamaha U1 Premium

An upgraded version of the U1 with higher-grade internal materials. We currently have 1 in stock.

What About The Yamaha U3?

Many customers compare the Yamaha U1 with the Yamaha U3.

The U3 is taller, with longer strings and a larger soundboard. It usually gives a deeper bass and a more powerful sound.

It is often the better choice for advanced players, teachers or larger rooms.

However, many customers still prefer the U1 because:

  • It fits more comfortably into smaller homes
  • It is slightly less powerful
  • You can see over the top more easily
  • It costs less
  • It still delivers a proper Yamaha upright experience

Will A Yamaha U1 Hold Its Value?

Used Japanese Yamaha piano prices have steadily increased for many years as supply tightens and demand remains strong.

A customer who bought a Yamaha U3 from us years ago recently returned and sold it for more than they originally paid.

While no piano should be treated as a guaranteed investment, a properly prepared Japanese Yamaha upright usually holds value far better than many cheaper modern pianos.

Can A Yamaha U1 Be Too Loud?

If you are worried that a Yamaha U1 might dominate your living room or upset neighbours, you will be pleased to know that the middle pedal dramatically reduces the volume for practice.

If you want even more privacy, we can also fit silent systems to many Yamaha U1 pianos.
