About the adsilent Grand Piano Let-off Expansion kit
What’s the real difference between the Standard adsilent kits for grand pianos, and the upgraded “let-off expansion” kits?
Both kits let you practise silently with headphones by inserting a mute rail that stops the hammers reaching the strings.
The Standard kit costs £2,390 and includes all of the core adsilent system needed for headphone practice. The Upgraded kit costs £2,890 and adds the “Let-off Expansion System” which leaves your piano action completely unaffected when playing in normal acoustic mode.
Why does the Let-off Expansion System make a difference?
The Let-off expansion kit means that your piano is completely unaffected by the silent installation kit when played in acoustic mode. With the standard kit installed, the hammers have to be adjusted to make space for the mute rail and some players might feel that something is slightly different, especially in fast passages or when playing very softly.
Does the upgraded kit sound better?
Both versions use the same sensors and digital sound engine, so headphone sound quality is identical. The difference is entirely about feel.
Who usually notices the improvement most?
- Advanced pianists
- Anyone particularly sensitive to touch and repetition
Is the extra £500 worth it?
Yes. It means that when you are playing in acoustic mode, you know that you are playing the piano in its fully optimal setup. So if you are a very demanding pianist and require the most sensitive touch and the fastest repetition, then yes it’s a sensible choice.
Do people ever upgrade later?
Yes – some do, however it is rare because we are only talking about minor differences. We have sold dozens of the standard silent kits and nobody has been back to us complaining about the touch.
Is installation different?
Yes. The upgraded kit is more complex to fit and regulate because of the additional mechanical parts.
