Can a Yamaha Piano really have a European tone?

Hi there
Yes, a Yamaha can have the sweet, mellow European tone associated with antique or older English and German brands. How?
It’s Easy! Just Voice The Hammers
It’s as simple as voicing the hammers to take away the Yamaha brightness and you are then left with a sweet mellow European tone on a nice modern Yamaha piano.
Be Careful About Tired Old Pianos
A quick word of warning also, some people get the “European tone” mixed up with the tired old tone of a neglected antique piano. Of course, some folk like the tired old tone of a neglected old piano, but that’s not the same thing as enjoying a “European tone”. A good piano tone should be clean and energetic but you should also be able to play it at a whisper when you want to.
