If you own a Yamaha and want to know what it is worth, the honest answer is that it depends, mostly on the model, where it was made, its age and its condition. Here is how a used Yamaha is valued, and how to get a proper figure.

What sets the value
- The model. A U1 or U3 upright, or a C-series grand, holds its value far better than a budget model such as a b1 or a P-series.
- Where it was made. A Japanese-built Yamaha is worth more than a later Chinese or Indonesian one. The model and serial number tell us which. See our serial number guide.
- Age and condition. A piano that has been tuned regularly and kept in good order is worth more.
- A Silent system. A working Silent system adds value.
Rough figures
Used Yamaha prices cover a wide range. A good reconditioned Japanese U1 or U3 is worth several thousand pounds; a budget or Chinese-built model considerably less; a tired piano needing work, less again.
