Where to Buy a Yamaha Piano in the UK

If you are looking to buy a Yamaha piano in the UK, you have a few routes, and the right one depends on your budget and whether you want new or used. Here is an honest guide, from a dealer who specialises in reconditioned Japanese Yamahas.

New from a Yamaha dealer

Yamaha has official UK dealers who sell new pianos with a warranty. You get a brand-new instrument and the reassurance of the dealer network, but you pay new prices, and a new budget model may be built in Indonesia or China rather than Japan. See are Yamaha pianos made in Japan.

Reconditioned from a specialist

This is what we do. Older Japanese Yamahas, the U1, U3 and C-series, are imported and properly reconditioned, and they offer professional quality for a fraction of the new price. A good reconditioned Japanese U1 is often a better instrument than a new budget model at similar money. See our Yamaha pianos for sale.

Private sales

You will find used Yamahas advertised privately, often cheaply. The saving comes with risk: no warranty, no reconditioning, and the condition is whatever it is. Always have one seen by a technician, and check the model and serial to know where and when it was built. See our serial number guide.

Auctions

Occasionally cheaper, always riskier. You may not be able to try the piano properly, and fees add up.

What to check wherever you buy

The model, the serial number and where it was made, the condition of the action and tuning, and whether it has been reconditioned. Our price guide tells you what is fair.
