Bechstein Academy and W. Hoffmann Explained
Bechstein sells pianos under several names, and it causes real confusion. Here is the plain version, so you know exactly what you are buying.
C. Bechstein, the top line
The pianos badged “C. Bechstein” are the hand-built German flagships, made in Germany to the highest standard. These are the true rivals to Steinway and Bösendorfer, and priced to match.
Bechstein Academy, the middle
The Bechstein Academy line is designed by Bechstein but built partly outside Germany to reach a lower price. Good pianos, and they carry Bechstein’s design, but they are not the hand-built German C. Bechstein.
W. Hoffmann, the entry line
W. Hoffmann is Bechstein’s more affordable brand, built in Europe and Asia. Decent pianos for the money, sold under the Bechstein group, but a step further from the German flagship.
