Choose your Yamaha grand

A grand has longer strings and a larger soundboard than any upright, so the tone is fuller and the touch more responsive. If you have the floor space, a grand is well worth considering. Our current grand stock is shown below. Prices vary by model, size, age and finish, so the honest answer on cost is to check what we have ready now.

The Yamaha grand range, in plain terms

Most of the grands we sell are from the Yamaha C series and the earlier G series. Both are full Japanese grands. The C series is the current range, from the C1 up to the concert-scale C7, with the C2 and C3 the most popular for a home. The G series (G1 up to G7) is the generation behind the C series and can be very good value for a Japanese grand. As a rule, the longer the piano, the bigger and rounder the sound, so the right size depends on your room as much as your budget.

Yamaha also makes smaller, more affordable grands under names like the GB1, GC1 and GA1. These are a separate, entry-level line, and should not be confused with the G series. If a compact grand is what you are after, see our baby grand page.

You are welcome to try a grand before you decide. We have two showrooms, one near Oldham and Manchester and one in Battersea in London, both by appointment. Booking ahead lets us have the right pianos tuned and ready for you.

Grand piano questions, answered

How much room does a grand piano need?

More than an upright, but perhaps less than you think. A smaller grand like a C1 or C2 needs roughly the footprint of a two-seater sofa, plus room for the stool and to lift the lid. The longer models such as the C5 and C7 need more floor space. As a rough guide, allow the length of the piano plus about a metre for the player. We are happy to check measurements with you before you buy.

Is a reconditioned Japanese grand reliable?

Yes. A well-made Yamaha grand is built to last for decades, and the ones we sell are checked by model and serial and prepared in our own workshop before sale. Every piano comes with our lifetime warranty. For comparison, Yamaha’s own guarantee on a brand-new piano is 5 years, or 10 if you register it.

How much do Yamaha grands cost?

It varies a lot by model, size, age and finish, so we do not quote a fixed price that would quickly go out of date. The smaller C and G series grands are the most affordable, and the larger models cost more. Grand or upright, which should I buy?

If you have the space and the budget, a grand gives you a fuller tone and a more responsive touch. An upright takes up far less room and costs less, and a good Japanese upright like the U3 still plays beautifully. It comes down to your room, your budget and how much the feel of a grand matters to you. There is no wrong answer.

Can you deliver a grand piano?

Yes. Delivery to a ground floor is free anywhere in the UK, and your first tuning at home is included. Grands need careful handling and sometimes partial dismantling, so stairs or awkward access are quoted separately. Tell us about the route in and we will sort the details.
