Are Bechstein Pianos Good?
In a word, yes. Hand-built German C. Bechstein pianos are among the finest in the world, spoken of alongside Steinway and Bösendorfer. But the honest answer needs one important caveat.
The caveat: which Bechstein
The name covers two very different things. The hand-built German C. Bechstein is a top-tier piano. The cheaper W. Hoffmann and Bechstein Academy lines, designed by Bechstein but built partly abroad, are good mid-range pianos but not the same instrument. So whether a Bechstein is “good” depends on which one. Both are decent; only one is a world-beater. Check the label. See our models guide.
What people love about them
The classic C. Bechstein tone is refined, clear and singing, prized for colour and detail. Leading pianists have favoured them for well over a century.
