Restoring a Bechstein Piano
Older Bechsteins, especially the pre-war German grands, are often restored before sale, and the quality of that work makes a big difference to what the piano is worth. We are Yamaha specialists, not a Bechstein restorer, so this is general guidance.
What restoration involves
The main jobs are restringing, work on the action and hammers, attention to the soundboard and pinblock, and refinishing the case. A light going-over is one thing; a full rebuild with major parts renewed is another, and the price should reflect which you are getting.
The parts question
As with any fine piano, ask what was replaced and with what. A Bechstein rebuilt with quality parts by someone who knows the make is worth far more than one patched up with cheap substitutes. Get the work in writing.
