Blüthner Grand Pianos

Blüthner’s grands are among the finest in the world, hand-built in Leipzig, and known for a warm, singing tone with the soft shimmer of the maker’s famous extra string.

The range

Blüthner’s grands run from the smaller home grands, through the popular mid-sized models, up to the full concert grand of around nine feet. The bigger the piano, the fuller the sound, and the more room it needs. Each is hand-built in small numbers.

The aliquot tone

In the treble, each note has a fourth string that vibrates in sympathy rather than being struck, adding a gentle shimmer. It is a Blüthner signature, and gives the top of the piano a warmth and glow that players prize, especially in romantic music.

Price and the alternative

A new Blüthner grand is a top-tier purchase, in the same territory as a Steinway or a Bösendorfer. See our price guide. If that is beyond budget, a reconditioned Yamaha C-series grand gives you a fine grand for a fraction of the price. See our Yamaha grand pianos.
