Bösendorfer Grand Pianos

Bösendorfer names its grands by length in centimetres, which makes the range easy to follow. Here is the line-up, from small home grands to the concert models.

The home grands

  1. 155 and 170. The small grands, around 5 feet 1 and 5 feet 7, for a normal room.
  2. 185 and 200. Larger home grands, around 6 feet and 6 feet 7, with a fuller bass.
  3. 214 and 225. Semi-concert grands, around 7 feet and 7 feet 4, for large rooms, studios and small halls.

The concert grands

  1. 280. The concert grand, around 9 feet 2, for the platform.
  2. Imperial 290. The famous flagship with extra bass keys. See our Imperial page.

All share the warm, transparent Viennese tone Bösendorfer is known for. The bigger the piano, the fuller the sound, and the more room it needs.

Which suits you, and the alternative

For a home, a 155, 170 or 185 is the usual choice. These are expensive, hand-built Viennese pianos, and our price guide has the ranges. If the budget will not stretch, a reconditioned Yamaha grand, from the company that now owns Bösendorfer, gives you a fine grand for far less. Come and compare.
