Bösendorfer Models
Bösendorfer names most of its grands by their length in centimetres, which makes the range easy to follow once you know the trick.
The grands
The home grands run from the 155 and 170, small grands for a normal room, through the 185 and 200, larger home grands, up to the 214 and 225 semi-concert grands and the 280 concert grand. The number is simply the length in centimetres, so a 200 is two metres long.
The Imperial
At the top sits the famous Imperial, the 290, a concert grand of around nine and a half feet with extra keys at the bass end. Where a normal piano stops at the bottom A, the Imperial continues down to the bottom C, adding notes used in a handful of pieces and adding resonance to the whole instrument. It is one of the most distinctive pianos in the world.
Uprights
Bösendorfer also makes a small number of finely built upright pianos, which are rare.
