Kemble Grand Pianos

Kemble is best known for its uprights, but it also made grand pianos, and a used Kemble grand can be a lot of piano for the money.

The Kemble grands

Kemble’s grands are less common than its uprights, so you will see fewer of them. The Yamaha-era ones, built after 1988, share the Yamaha soundboards and action parts used across the range, so they carry much of the same even, reliable tone in a grand shape. Sizes vary, so always check the individual piano.

Who they suit

Someone who wants a grand for a home at a sensible price, and does not need the famous name of a Yamaha or a European maker. As a used British grand with Yamaha engineering, a good Kemble grand is worth hearing.

What to check, and the alternative

As with any used grand, condition is everything, so have one seen by a technician. Our buying guide applies just as much to grands. And it is well worth comparing against a reconditioned Yamaha C-series grand of similar money. See our Yamaha grand pianos.
