Petrof vs Yamaha

The short version
A Petrof is a hand-built Czech grand or upright with a warm, romantic European tone. A Yamaha is a superbly consistent Japanese piano with a bright, clear tone and the strongest resale in the UK. Which you prefer is really a question of tone and priorities.
Tone
Petrof is warm, singing and romantic, in the older European tradition. Yamaha is bright, clear and even, and carries and records well. Neither is better; they suit different ears.
Price and resale
A reconditioned Japanese Yamaha usually costs less than a comparable Petrof and holds its value more strongly in the UK, simply because the name is so well known here. A Petrof gives you hand-built European character for the money.
