“Let me jump straight in and say that if you are interested in a Yamaha of around this size I recommend you book in to come and play this one as I think it has something special. It has the brilliant energy that one normally associates with Yamahas but without the shrill excessive brightness that they usually have. The tone on this one is a perfect balance between volume and tone. So please feel free to get in touch to arrange a viewing. The cheaper brand new Yamaha grand pianos are made in Indonesia and are of very dubious build quality. This Yamaha C1 is most definately not Indonesian made but is one of Yamaha’s “proper” pianos. This one is only around 7 years old and in tip-top musical condition (great touch and tone) and excellent overall physical condition. The RRP on this model is £13,000 and the cheapest any dealer will sell you is around the £9000 mark. So you’re looking at a saving of around £2300 compared with a new one and when you sit and play this piano you’ll realise there is no need to splash out on a new one.”

We all know about the current popularity of Yamaha pianos (as long as they are made in Japan, not Indonesia) and in my opinion this is a deserved reputation.

As I’ve written at the top of this page, this Yamaha C1 seems to be quite special to me. The action is free and easy to play and the tone is very lively but at the same time is warm and full-bodied unlike many Yamahas of this size. Musically, it is flawless and will suit even the most demanding players. Cosmetically, its excellent too but there are just a couple of imperfections. First, there are 5 or 6 small dents on the top lid. These are actually quite small and are completely out of view when the main lid is folded back for playing on. Most people never actually close the main lid so in most settings this damage will never be seen. Second, a very small amount of liquid has been spilt on the right hand side. It has caused a slight stain on a tiny bit of felt and on 3 or 4 hammers. HOWEVER, don’t let that put you off as this is having ZERO affect on the sound or action. In fact I can have this tidied up very easily and will be happy to arrange for this to be done at the point of sale if it bothers you. I know a professional (but reasonably priced) piano cleaner who can do this for you before delivery. It will probably cost around £30 – £50. So it’s no big deal.

Overall then, a stunning piano with a very healthy saving against a new one.
