Notes from Mark & Julie

Here a brief summary of the history of this piano

  • Bought brand new in 1990 from Dawson’s Music in Altrincham as a retirement gift (to himself) by the Headmaster of an independent secondary school in Altrincham.
  • In 1995, the Headmaster sold it back to Dawson’s as he was downsizing
  • It was then purchased by Graham from Altrincham for his own enjoyment at home
  • Tuned annually by Stephen Greenhalgh from Blackburn since new
  • August 2025 – piano acquired from Graham and moved to Mark Goodwin Pianos
  • The piano has never been in an institution and has not been used as an event hire piano
  • The piano is immaculate internally and externally. It still looks, sounds, and feels brand new.

Here is the full original description as provided by Graham from Altrincham;

“Dawsons’ explained that the piano was originally purchased brand new as a retirement gift (to himself) by the Headmaster of an independent secondary school in Altrincham, subsequent to many months of auditioning several much more expensive instruments. It was a downsizing of his home some years later which dictated a part exchange back to Dawsons. We purchased the piano in 1995 from Dawsons’ Music who at the time had a shop in Altrincham. As the piano was far too large to display in their shop, it was agreed to purchase on the basis that the piano would be auditioned in my home and returned to Dawsons in the event that it fell short of my expectations. It did not. With our children now having grown up and left home, we are now downsizing ourselves and it is a significant regret that it has been decided that the piano will not come with us. I can honestly say that the ownership of the piano has given me possibly the most pleasure and satisfaction of any possession I have acquired. The piano has been tuned on an annual basis ( covid excepting ) by Stephen Greenhalgh. It is my understanding that he has tuned the piano from brand new for the original owner and myself.”
