Are Schimmel Pianos Good?

Yes, on the whole, but the honest answer depends entirely on which Schimmel, because the name now covers three very different tiers.

Which Schimmel

  1. Konzert and Classic, made in Germany, are fine top-end pianos with a clear, precise tone. These are the real German Schimmels.
  2. Wilhelm Schimmel, built in Poland, is a good mid-range piano.
  3. Fridolin Schimmel, built in China, is a decent entry-level piano.

So whether a Schimmel is “good” depends on which line. All are respectable for their price; only the German ones are top-tier. Check the badge. See our models overview.

What people like about them

The clear, precise, versatile tone, a little brighter and more modern than the older romantic German makers, and, on the German models, genuine top-end build.

Our view

A German Konzert Schimmel is a fine piano. For the cheaper lines, compare honestly against a reconditioned Japanese Yamaha of similar money, which often wins on value and resale in the UK. See Schimmel vs Yamaha.
