Steinway vs Fazioli
Fazioli is the newcomer among the great names, an Italian maker that has earned a place at the very top in a single generation.
The makers
Fazioli has built pianos in Italy since 1981, founded by Paolo Fazioli, an engineer and pianist. It makes only grands, in small numbers, around a hundred and fifty a year, and they are among the most expensive pianos in the world. Steinway, founded in 1853, makes far more pianos and has the far longer history.
Tone
Fazioli is known for a clear, powerful, precise tone with a brilliant top and exceptional evenness, the product of modern engineering and the finest materials. Steinway has the more traditional, warmer, more familiar concert voice. Both are found in concert halls and conservatoires.
