Bechstein Model B
The Bechstein Model B is one of the maker’s best-loved grands, a mid-to-large size that suits a serious pianist with a decent-sized room.
Size and character
The Model B is around 2.1 metres, near seven feet, big enough for a full, rich sound while still fitting a large domestic room or a studio. It has the refined, singing Bechstein tone, with real depth in the bass at this size.
One thing to watch: the older Bechstein Model B and the modern numbered range are not quite the same piano, because the names have changed over the years, so always check the exact model and its length. Our models guide explains the naming.
Who it suits
A pianist who wants a top-end German grand at home and has the room for it. It is a clear step up in sound from the smaller grands, and a rival to a Steinway B or a larger Bösendorfer.
