Used Bechstein Pianos for Sale

Looking for a used Bechstein? Here is an honest guide to what is out there, what to check, and how to know a fair price. We are Yamaha specialists and do not sell Bechstein, so this is guidance, not a sales pitch.

What you will find

Used Bechsteins range from hundred-year-old German grands to modern instruments and the cheaper Academy and Hoffmann lines. The first thing to establish is which you are looking at, because the price and quality vary hugely. See our models guide.

What to check

Condition above all: the soundboard, action, tuning stability and case. Whether it has been rebuilt, and with what parts. And which line and era it is. Age matters less than people think. Always have one seen by an independent technician before you buy. Our buying guide has the full checklist.

What is it worth

See our price guide for the ranges. A cheap Bechstein usually has a reason, so be curious rather than excited.

The alternative worth hearing

If the point is a fine piano for the home rather than the Bechstein name, a reconditioned Yamaha from Japan costs far less. That is our speciality, and we are happy to let you compare.
