Steinway Model O Overview

The Model O is the larger of Steinway’s two most popular home grands, at 5 feet 10½ inches. Many players prefer it to the smaller Model M for its slightly fuller bass and longer strings, while it still fits a normal, if generous, room. Along with the near-identical Model L, it is one of the most common Steinways on the used market.

Who it suits

Players who want a little more grand than the M, without stepping up to the room a Model B needs. A very popular choice for the home.

The room it needs

Just under six feet, so a generous living room or music room rather than a small one.

What it costs

New, around £82,000 and up (see our new price guide). Used Model O and L pianos are relatively plentiful, which keeps prices sensible. Our used price guide has the ranges.

The alternative

A reconditioned Yamaha C3, at 6 feet 1, is the natural comparison and costs far less.
