How Much Is My Yamaha Grand Piano Worth?
If you own a Yamaha grand, you own one of the most in-demand pianos on the second-hand market. But the price you see in a shop window is not the price a shop will pay you. This page explains why, and what you can realistically expect.
Three things set the value
1. The model. Bigger grands are worth more. A C3 or G3 is worth much more than a GB1, because longer strings give a richer sound and the build quality is higher.
2. The age. Use our free serial number lookup to find the year. A newer piano is not always better, but buyers will pay more for one made in the last 20 to 30 years.
3. The condition. Scratches on the case can be put right. Worn hammers, loose tuning pins or a cracked soundboard cost far more to fix, and that comes off the value.

What you can expect to be paid
A shop has to collect, restore, tune, store, advertise, deliver and guarantee the piano. That is why the price you are paid is lower than the shop price. There are three routes.
- Sell privately. You can get the most money, but you deal with viewings, time wasters, moving costs and the risk of a buyer pulling out.
- Sell outright to a dealer. Quickest and simplest, but the lowest price.
- Sell on commission. A middle path. The dealer does all the work, and you get a fixed amount when the piano sells. With us, if it hasn’t sold within 12 months, we pay you anyway.
