Notes from Mark & Julie

This piano is in our workshop queue. We haven’t done any work to it yet. The price shown is the “as is” price and it will rise to around £12,000 once the work is done. We will try to make a video once the piano has been tuned so that you can hear what it sounds like in its current condition. Very briefly, this piano has been beautifully cared for by 1 owner its entire life. It had a brief fling into the world of pop as you will read below. Youy are welcome to arrange a viewing if you’d like to view the piano before the work is carried out. You may buy it “as is” or wait until the work is done. Any questions, please ask.

The previous owner of this piano has sent the following bits of information so that we can pass it on to the next owner

The piano has only been played intermittently by a pro musician/music teacher when at home in one location, here in Ealing. No damp or sun exposure, no chipped keys, lid largely left closed all these years. Fine settled original condition.

After some chatting, they shared more information, as follows:

The piano was purchased new from Chappell’s in the early 1980’s for me by my mother after some pleading after I returned from studying music at Bristol University. I was practising quite a lot of Classical piano at the time with ambitions. I then moved to Scandinavia in 1985 where I have family and after that the piano was played a bit when I came back to London during holidays and also a bit by my brother who is also a musician and formed The Brand New Heavies (their early hit ”Never Stop” which was written using this Yamaha), and also by my father a bit who composed music on an amateur basis especially for theatre. And for an occasional Jazz jam. The piano was originally in a first floor room and was then moved down to its current location on the ground floor. The piano has had the lid fully open only very occasionally when new though it is now a bit too loud for the room in question. Mainly just the front flap open otherwise and then closed with a cover placing the stand on top. Regularly tuned.

And finally

I just left the plastic wallet with the original sale document and the two keys for the lock on top so your guys will see it.

See photo gallery for this document and keys

You can see the piano 19 seconds into this video of the Brand New Heavies big hit, Never Stop
